Jintang County is located at the northeast side of Chengdu, Sichuan, where the thousand-mile-long Tuojiang River flows out of its origin. Zhaozhen Town under its jurisdiction is one of the famous ancient towns in Sichuan. The county covers an area of 1154 square kilometers, with the population of 850,000. Zhaozhen Town is 36km from the urban area of Chengdu, and sits at the center of the economic circle of Chengdu Plain. Today, standing in the central square of the County, you’d think you are in a metropolitan. Skyscrapers lines up both sides of the urban roads; green fields dotted with beautiful flowers spread along the banks of the river; fountains, luxury lamps scattered in an artistic pattern; Beihe River, Zhonghe River and Pihe River flow through the city like three silver belts and finally join into the embrace of Tuojiang River. The green waves reflect the small islands and bridges scattered in the city, forming a magical landscape of “city born in the water, water flowing in the city, city spreading in the forest, forest scattered in the city”. Jintang not only is home to numerous historic figures—such as He Lin, the “Hegel of the Orient”, Peng Jiazhen, the Anti-Qing Martyr, and the renowned poet Liushahe, but also the origin of many beautiful folk legends. The famous “eight views of Jintang”, with its profound historical and cultural connotation, is of high development potential. Within the county are many historic sites: Ciyun Temple on Yunding Mountain, Lianhua Temple on Paotai Mountain, Baita Temple of Huaikou, three temples of different styles forming a triangle; Sanxue Temple of Qixian Town and the Catholic Church of Sujiawan complementing each other; the Chengdu Wildlife World, best in China, first-class in Asia, adds another view to the tourist industry of Jintang. “Three rivers of waves and tides join together; hundreds of thousands gather at the ancient pier; the boat ferries across the sky; a distant city floats amidst the water.” Jintang County is appraised as the tourists as the “Oriental Venice”. The renowned poet Liu Shahe wrote after touring the city of gardens and rivers: green waves surround the city on three sides; a peninsula floats besides the deep pond; fishing boats come across the river, with white gulls dancing around; flowers blooming against the setting sun, as it shines across the tens of miles of mountains; if you lived here, you would became a god.
Three Small Gorges of Tuojiang River flow down from the garden city, with fruit trees lining on both banks, decorating them with lush green and come autumn and winter, all the branches are weighed down by fruits, such an enchanting view. There are 10 wharves along the bank. Tourists may take the large cruise ship from the county down the river, appreciating the beautiful natural sceneries along the banks, while listening to the ancient legends told by the guide. They may taste the fresh fish out of the river, or ride the waves of Jiulong Long Lake on a yacht, demonstrating the style and courage of the brave and experiencing the boundless realm of imagination. Another option is to ferry oneself in a small boat across the tranquil lake. The breathtaking and beautiful reflections, schools of fish swimming in the water, wild birds chasing and playing with each other. It’s as if you were stepping into a picture of nature and immense fun.
Wufengxi Ancient Town sits on the bank of the Tuojiang River in the middle part of Longquan Mountains. The five ancient streets in the town are named as Jinfeng (golden phoenix), Qingfeng (green phoenix), Yufeng (jade phoenix), Baifeng (white phoenix), and Xiaofeng (small phoenix). The architecture mainly features folk houses of the diversified and unique style of Qing dynasty. As early as Han and Tang Dynasty, it has already been a key wharf on the upstream of the Tuojiang River, including four ferries—Zhahu Ferry, Mingyang Ferry, Jinniu Ferry, and Luojiaba Ferry. It is the only specimen of ancient towns in the mountainous regions around Chengdu Basin, as well as the home to the famous Chinese philosopher He Lin, and Professor He Meiying of Tsinghua University.
It is located in the middle part of Longquan Mountains in Jintang County, Chengdu. The scenic area contains the Major and Minor Yunding Mountains, with an elevation of 982 meters. Yunding Mountain is famous for its extremely beautiful and secluded beauty and boasts for the marvelous view of “Sunny Mist atop Yunding Mountain”. Three Chinese characters “Yun Ding Shan” (Yunding Mountain) are engraved on the side of Qifoyan, with a primitive yet magnificent style. Above it lays Ciyun Temple, originally built in Qiliang of Nan Dynasty. Through centuries of vicissitude, the current construction area is 5494 m2, all of which rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty. A stone arch stands in front of the temple, on which a Yunding Chanlin of clerical script was engraved. Many of the temple buildings are covered with glazed tiles, demonstrating a marvelous beauty.
